AboutCCSD.com is committed to helping Cambrians be their own best government watchdogs, by improving access to existing information and digitizing new information, and by enabling all of us to collaborate in fostering greater transparency.

Public oversight is the ultimate safeguard of democracy. It is the inalienable right of citizens to examine and judge their government. For Cambria, the laws that provide for public access to government are the Brown Act (Open Meetings) and CPRA (California Public Records Act). These laws deal with people’s rights to find out what citizens need to know to be truly self-governing, and to share what they know and believe without fear or loss.

AboutCCSD.com is dedicated to promoting better practices and better observance of the law by the CCSD and assuring that Cambrians know their rights and protections and how to use them confidently. No Cambrian should think twice about acting to have their voice heard or get information from the CCSD.

An informed public is the cornerstone of our democracy. Open government instills public trust. In a democracy, government must function under a presumption of openness, balancing this as necessary with the confidentiality concerns of individual privacy.

As a citizen journalist and primary writer on this website, I intend to adhere to the four main principles of good journalism:

1. Seek Truth and Report It — Journalists should be honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.
2. Minimize Harm — Ethical journalists treat sources, subjects and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect.
3. Act Independently — Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public’s right to know.
4. Be Accountable — Journalists are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each other.
